Roy Tam: I've just bought ST3500418AS and I find that the "Seek Error Rate" of SMART is raising very fast

Thomas M.: Have you run the SeaTools for DOS short and long DST tests on the drive yet?
Roy Tam: I'm running Long DST using SeaTools for Windows. Short DST and SMART pass.

Thomas M.: What application were you using to get that Seek Error Rate information from?
Roy Tam: HD Tune Pro. Speedfan. Everest
Thomas M.: It is not interpreting the SMART information correctly. If it passes both the short and long SeaTools tests, the drive is fine.
Roy Tam: I see. And I found two problems. First, I'm getting .Net runtime error about ActiveX when I start SeaTools for Windows. Second, I can't check my drive's Warranty Status from your website. I'm getting Communication Error With Warranty Database
The warranty database did not return valid data.
Thomas M.: 1. You need to be using SeaTools for DOS on the internal hard drives, not the version for Windows.
Thomas M.: 2. Alot of systems went down during the night, and we are trying to get them back up.
Roy Tam: Then how can I install SeaTools for DOS to USB PenDrive? My system doesn't have any FDD or Optical Disc Drive.
Thomas M.: You can install them to pen drive. The ISO has to be on CD. try installing the drive into another PC, and running the tests from there.
Roy Tam: I only have that Desktop PC and the laptop PC that I'm chatting with you here.
Thomas M.: Then I don't know how else I can help you. You need to run the SeaTools for DOS tests on the drive. The other utilities you are using are not interpreting the SMART data correctly. If it passes those tests from SeaTools, the drive is fine.
